STAGES Certification in Scoring & Debriefing
An Invitation from Terri O’Fallon PhD
Become a Certified STAGES Assessment Scorer/Debriefer and Earn Additional Income
As someone who has taken one or more STAGES courses, you’re aware that my research is based on STAGES Assessments taken over the last number of years. At the heart of this is a rigorous process for “scoring” and “debriefing” that I have developed, for which I have trained a small group of individuals who are paid for this work. (I include a more detailed description of scoring and debriefing at the bottom of this email.)
In the last year, demand for STAGES Assessments has grown as more people learn about STAGES and begin integrating it into their professional practices and personal lives. I expect this trend to continue as more and more practitioners engage in our other courses and offer STAGES Assessments to their clients.
To meet this demand I will be offering scoring and debriefing training starting January 7. This is an opportunity to become a Certified STAGES Assessment Scorer/Debriefer and earn additional income. I invite you to find out more about it!
There are several benefits to you from learning to score and debrief. The training is an investment for you since once you are certified you will be paid for the inventories you score (currently $320/inventory) and the debriefs you conduct (currently $200/debrief). If you are a professional (coach, counselor, or therapist) you can also create your own following and develop a robust scoring and debriefing practice, which pays quite well, so you will be able to get your investment back as well as create an income for yourself thereafter.
In addition, you will learn more deeply the underpinnings of the STAGES model and will be more adept in its use on many more levels than you would be by taking our other classes. As well, you will become a part of the STAGES community that we are building amongst debriefers, scorers, and STAGES consultants, coaches and therapists that have taken the Diagnostics and Interventions courses.
The training is very rigorous and will take 18 months to complete with meetings every week or two. In the first year you will learn to score and write comments. During this training you will score two inventories each week resulting in the completion of 100 inventories by the end of 2019. Once these are completed there will be a supervision period to assure consistency and inter-rating in the scoring process. Debriefing training will follow in the first half of 2020.
The ideal participant in this training is someone with a serious passion for and commitment to STAGES, who would like to be part of the team of Certified Scorers/Debriefers as well as part of the growing community around STAGES, and who would like to earn some additional income.
The training requires that you have a solid background in STAGES based on the following;
You must have taken a STAGES Assessment with Debrief within the last two years AND you must have completed one of the following STAGES trainings:
Frontiers of Consciousness (offered in Spring 2018) PLUS either, STAGES Essentials for Psychotherapists & Coaches or, Shadow into Soul
You are currently participating in the STAGES Certification for Diagnostics & Interventions
You have attended the STAGES Backstage / STAGES in Depth 5-day workshop previously offered through Pacific Integral
You have taken a STAGES Debriefing course previously offered through Pacific Integral
Pricing and Application Process
The price of the training is:
Scoring: $600 per month, Jan – Dec 2019; $7,200 total. 15% discount if paid in full in advance.
Debriefing: $600 per month, Jan – Jun 2020; $3,600 total. 15% discount if paid in full in advance.
This training will be limited to 12 people and admission will be by application. Here is the process and timeline we will follow:
December 12: Deadline to submit your application. I will review your application and may interview you regarding your interest and capacities.
December 19: I will make decisions about all applications and all applicants will be notified by email, which may result in an invitation to take the training with instructions on how to register.
December 27: If you are accepted you should register as soon as possible but no later than December 27.
Complete your application for the training by clicking the button below.
In this video I answer questions in a Q&A session held on November 29. I hope this helps you decide if this training is right for you. If you still have questions after watching this video please me at email@example.com.
Thanks so much for considering this possibility for yourself and for us.
What is Scoring and Debriefing of a STAGES Assessment?
The STAGES Inventory is a sentence completion test from which is derived the individual test taker’s developmental level. The inventory has 36 sentence starters. The test taker completes each sentence. For example, a sentence starter might be: “Raising a family…” and the respondent might write “is a formidable process filled with Love.” A specific STAGES scoring approach is used for assessing the completion of the test-taker’s response.
A general understanding of development is required to score with the STAGES model:
- repeating patterns of growth
- developmental grammar
- time and space relationships
- other important factors that determine how people grow and develop
More specifically, scorers learn to assess using three different STAGES parameters which determine a developmental level. The accurate parameters can be discovered by responding to three questions:
- Is the object of concern a Concrete object, a Subtle object or a MetAware object?
- Does the test taker prefer an Individual orientation or a Collective orientation?
- What is the learning process this person prefers: Receptive, Active, Reciprocal, or Interpenetrative?
While these are three simple questions, there are very sophisticated ways to respond to them as an assessor. One must be able to analyze the response and score with one’s whole body as well. Mature and sophisticated scoring does not come only from analytical capacities.
An understanding of both the theoretical underpinnings of the STAGES model and the specific scoring techniques are required to score accurately.
This scoring course will take one year. Two or more inventories must be scored each week with 100 inventories completed by the end of 2019. Collaborative learning as well as individual learning approaches will be used. Each scoring participant will score the first 80 inventories with a peer and the last 20 will be scored independently. Participants will begin by working through this process with their classmates, learning to inter-rate with each other and discuss why their scores are the same as or different from other scorers. Developing a scoring community is part of this process and will continue after certification.
By the end of the year the scoring class participants will have learned how to accurately score the developmental level of the person, and how to write comments about the person they have scored. Three areas will be covered in a set of comments 1) general summary 2) themes derived from the test takers sentence completion writing 3) recommendations for practice.
The debriefing course will follow the scoring course and take six months to complete. Debriefing is the process of reviewing with clients the results of their assessment in the form of a report with the written comments of the scorer. The report identifies the client’s developmental level, their leading and trailing developmental edges, and offers a few practices to foster further development. The debrief helps the client to understand the results and how to act on them.
