Your outer world is simply a reflection of your inner world. If you want to change your level of success and happiness on the outside, you will first need to change it on the inside. This statement seems most real when it comes to our relationships. Whether it’s our professional relationships or our personal relationships, at the office, at home, or online; Stephen Covey said it best when he said, “The most important ingredient we put into any relationship is not what we say or what we do, but what we are.”

When our relationships are working well we feel connected and appreciated…When they are not, we can feel isolated, confused and frustrated. When people find themselves in that space, they often turn to me. I’m a Developmental Relationship Coach.

Developmental Coaching is about inquiring into your beliefs and values; your thoughts, feelings and meaning-making, as these are the things that drive your behaviors. Looking at them through the Stages Model, I help you clearly see how you are being in your relationship, and the effect it is having. We understand that before you can begin to develop a positive relationship with others, you need to make sure that you have a healthy relationship with yourself. In Developmental Coaching my clients get to see themselves fully and be themselves fully, in a space of support, non-judgment and authenticity. Seeing exactly where and how they get in their own way and discovering how to make the changes that transform themselves and transforms their relationships.

As we all know, we can’t change another person. However, we can create an environment for trust, connection, authenticity and engagement to exist. We can learn skills to manage conflict. We can develop our capacity to open lines of communication, to listen fully, and to speak in a way that promotes understanding. Coaching with the Stages Model allows you to fully understand your own meaning-making, and also to understand others’ meaning-making much more precisely so you truly realize that we are all different in many ways, and thus we can perceive the world in so many different ways. The thought that everyone does or should perceive the world the same way I do is probably the biggest challenge in relationships…personal and professional.

Let’s face it, relationships can be challenging. But the truth is that, human connection is vital. A dysfunctional relationship, whether at work or at home, can take a heavy emotional and psychological toll on individuals and in work organizations. Functional relationships enhance personal resiliency, contribute to self-esteem, increase productivity and create an environment that empowers everyone involved.

So, if you are ready to dig deep, to look at your gifts and limitations, to have an honest, uncompromising yet fiercely supportive conversation that shines the light of awareness on your full potential, and to take your relationships to the next level, then Developmental Relationship Coaching is probably a good fit for you. Let’s have a ‘get acquainted’ conversation and find out. Contact me at +1 703-493-1408 or sterling@resurgenthinking.com.
